More information on this area:
The Turkish Aegean Coast region
On the Bodrum Peninsula buildings are not permitted to be built more than 2 stories high, and there are no buildings higher than 3 stories in the whole Peninsula. This tends to make the area look particularly attractive. Most of the buildings are white washed cubes, similar to those in the Greek Islands. This is because this part of Turkey used to belong to Greece and some of the Greek Islands used to belong to Turkey. As you can imagine, there is a lot of history around the area.
History
Archaeological excavations have established that human habitation in the Yalikavak area began in around 2000BC, and there are ruins and artefacts from the Carian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman eras. The historic sites such as Sandima, Pasanda (Geris), Kandiba and Termil (Dirmil/Gökçebel) attract visitors from all over the world. Yalikavak is famous for the numerous windmills found in the vicinity. The winds, that until recently turned the vanes of these working windmills, now fill the sails of boats and windsurfs. Another “typical” feature found in abundance here are domed water cisterns which, in the past, were used in times of drought and are now being adapted for artistic and cultural uses.
A 20 minute road journey will take you to Bodrum Centre with its historic castle which was built from 1402 onwards, by the Knights of St John as the Castle of St. Peter or Petronium. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus is also located in Bodrum town.
Ferry trips to the Greek island of Kos can be made from Turgutreis and Bodrum
Further afield you can visit Ephesus, the largest archaeological site in the world, the stunning pools at Pamukkale, the royal rock tombs at Dalyan, and the temple of Apollo at Didim.
Koyunbaba
Koyunbaba beach is approx 10/15 mins walk from the villa and can be reached by following the road through the Karya development. Some beaches are private and may have access restricted to residents of nearby properties.
Yalikavak
Yalikavak's town centre has retained its traditional Turkish charm. With its simple but stylish laid back atmosphere and friendly welcoming locals, this is its main attraction and the reason why holidaymakers return to the area year after year. Along the coast road en-route from the villa to Yalikavak you will pass some of the best fish restaurants on the Bodrum Peninsula huddled together in their own 'fish restaurant village' area. A couple of minutes further on takes you to Yalikavak's fashionable new Marina (Palmarina) with super yachts, gullets and sail boats visiting from all around the world. The Marina is home to smart shops, bars, restaurants and a beach club which hosts open air concerts during high summer.
The centre of Bodrum is less than 20 minutes from here with its own smart Marina, town centre shops and, of course, the famous Bodrum Castle. Bodrum town has fabulous shops in the Marina area and also along the narrow streets of the old town near the Castle. At night, the Marina has open air live music starting at 10pm until the early hours nightly during high summer.
Yalikavak has supermarkets, banks, ATMs, Taxi ranks, bus station, petrol stations etc.
A car is advised for this location. The dolmus (public transport minibus) runs along the main road from Yalikavak to Gumusluk, this is near the Migros supermarket (which is 1km, 2 mins drive away).
Distances: Bodrum town is 20/25 mins from Villa Joy; Yalikavak is 15 mins drive, Gumusluk fishing village and harbour restaurants are 10/15 mins drive in the opposite direction
Turgutreis is 20 mins drive : Nearest supermarket, Migros, 1 km - 15 minute walk, 2 min drive

Stunning Setting, Villa Joy is Beautiful| September 2019
Firstly, we had a fabulous time in Villa Joy, the setting is stunning and we miss our daily opening of the shutters and seeing the beautiful view across the pool area and out to the sea. We were much in need or rest and relaxation and it definitely fit the bill. I cant actually come up with anything negative, the villa is beautiful, incredibly well presented and maintained with virtually everything you need for a wonderful holiday. While on this occasion it didn’t matter to us given we arrived late afternoon, the welcome pack is good, it provided enough to get you started and through the first day if you choose. Our experience more recently is that properties no longer offer this and if you arrive late at night you are left with nothing till the next morning. I hope it’s something they maintain or at least can be offered for late arrivals.
The booking and communication process with yourselves was first class. Simple, straightforward and all questions answered quickly and accurately. Payment process and remainders excellent. Laura was great, available as needed but basically left us alone. Thanks again to Peninsula Villas for everything, we will be back 😊

Villa Joy, Perfection| Aug/Sept 2019
Would firstly like to say a HUGE thank you to yourself; Annie, you always put my mind at rest when I started to panic about the little things. I nearly cancelled numerous times but you were always there for me and helped me through it with your answers and support. Without you we wouldn't have experienced such a perfect holiday at Villa Joy, who lived up to her name and gave us many precious memories to look back on. Her owners should be proud to have such an amazing place and we would not change a thing about it.
For Villa Joy/Peninsula Villas Bodrum ...
Starting with the booking process with Annie; she was incredibly helpful answering my many questions and providing ample information to make the process go very smoothly and put my mind at rest. We also had continuous contact with the villa manager Laura; who was lovely and also helped us with any problems and provided us with information about the area.
We arrived at night to a beautiful, modern, well presented villa and Laura was on hand to show us around and explain things. After a very comfortable nights sleep, we awoke to what could only be described as perfection. Villa Joy was beautiful inside and out; she provided an astounding view of the sea, coastline and yalakivak below us. In our eagerness we all held hands and jumped into the beautiful pool in our pj's!! Thanks to a well thought out welcome pack provided by Laura we didnt have to rush out and get supplies and so spent a lovely morning/afternoon just lazing in and around the pool on our floats. Villa Joy is immaculate, the attention to detail is just amazing. We felt privileged to spend our week there; re-connecting as a family, enjoying lazy days reading, sunbathing and playing games as a family in such a beautiful surrounding.
We hired a car for the week which was definitely needed. The supermarket is just down the road but be prepared and have a translator handy to work out items of food and a converter for the rates; we just downloaded an app on our phone.
We ventured out to yalakivak harbour for a full English on the beach and enjoyed the market but be prepared to barter! If your looking for a boat trip head to Turgetreis, for £10pp many boats provide an 8 hour trip around the island with dinner included. There are lots of lovely beaches in the area! To spend the day on their sunloungers; you have to spend a certain amount of money on food and drink! The lads were all lovely and looked after us whilst we relaxed or swam with the fish in the sea!
Villa Joy definitely lives up to her name and gave us many precious memories to look back on so a huge thank you to her owners, Annie at peninsula villas and Laura for making our first holiday abroad so perfect; we will definitely be back. So thanks again Annie; We would gladly recommend Peninsula villas or Villa Joy to anyone.

Villa Joy, the Most Outstanding Villa We Stayed In| August 2019
Dear Annie
Thank you so much for all your help with the booking of Villa Joy. Your service was faultless and all information we needed was provided clearly.
Villa Joy was the most outstanding villa we have stayed in, with the most breathtaking views and sunsets. We didn’t want to come home.
We couldn’t fault anything and Laura was always on hand to answer any questions. For anyone wanting to visit this area, I would challenge anyone to find a better villa than this.
It truly was outstanding! We will be returning to Villa Joy in the near future. Many thanks Diane

We had the most Amazing Stay| July 2019
Hi Annie - Thank you for your email and speedy transfer of the deposit.
We had the most amazing stay at Villa Joy and want to come back again already! The house is perfect, immaculate, had everything you could need from hairdryers to cutlery and pans. The view was incredible and we felt so relaxed throughout the whole week. We cannot think of any improvements that needed to be made, we felt safe and that the whole complex was extremely safe. One thing we noticed was how clean the villa was, everywhere was spotless.
Laura was brilliant, she was very responsive to our queries via text. We forgot our adapters from the UK and Laura dropped a few off for us the very next morning which was very kind of her and we didnt then have to go out and buy any. Many thanks for a wonderful stay!

Villa Joy More Than Lived up to its Name| June 2019
Villa Joy more than lived up to its name and we could see why so many visitors come again and again. The villa speaks for itself with its amazing positioning. The view is to die for and we couldn’t tear ourselves away from it for hours on end! The villa’s beautiful design and attention to detail catered for our every whim too. The experience with Peninsular Villas was exemplary from start to finish. Annie made us feel really special with her personal touch and the booking and admin was simple and straightforward. The information on what to expect was wonderfully comprehensive and useful - we can think of nothing that was overlooked! Her recommendations were spot on too - particularly the hire car through Hasan at Yali Travel who practically treated us as royalty!! Laura was a great villa host with her warm friendly welcome which made us feel right at home. She accommodated our very delayed flight seamlessly and nothing was too much trouble for her during the week. We can’t wait to return very soon!

Villa Joy is Outstanding| June 2019
Thank you so much for everything you have both done, from our original booking to departing for the journey home!
I have stayed in many villas over the years and I can honestly say our experience with yourselves has been, by far, miles ahead of anyone, and the villa itself was outstanding, completely faultless!
I think our only small gripe was with the sun loungers... the back rests proved to be challenging and we soon found if they weren't completely wedged in properly, drinks had a habit of jumping out their glasses! 🙈
Laura was fab, even bringing us some milk when we accidentally brought yoghurt milk and couldn't figure out semi skimmed?! 😆
We were amazed at the decor and how well equipped the villa was, just stunning!
We would also like to thank you (and Laura again) for our bottle of bubbly and card from yourselves, it was a lovely surprise and much appreciated 😊
We would most definitely recommend Villa Joy and would love to return some time again.

It's a Lovely Plact to Stay| June 2019
We all had a fabulous time at Villa Joy. It’s a lovely place to stay, well equipped and with a wonderful view and we settled in easily to our time there.
Laura was incredibly helpful – a lovely meet and greet; plus being kind enough to get us our initial food shop, which was wonderful.
All in all, we had a very relaxing break. Thank you for your help and guidance in selecting our villa stay in Bodrum Annie. It worked very well for us.

Villa Joy Outstanding Truly 5*| May 2019
We had a wonderful holiday and we were so happy we listened to your recommendation, the Villa was outstanding, truly 5 Star!
The whole process from booking to the refund of the damage deposit couldn’t have been made any easier. The Villa is outstanding and a real credit to the Owners, a ‘Joy’. It suited our needs perfectly, luxurious and a great location.
We opted not to rent a car and found the Taxi Services, fast, reliable and great value. The Supermarket at the bottom of the hill stocks enough of a selection that there is no need to travel any further for food, drink etc. Beware, it’s a fairly easy walk down, a little more testing returning to the Villa! We used many of the Restaurants recommended and had a fantastic day trip to Bodrum City.
Laura, the Property Manager dealt with our every need including a welcome pack of some basic essentials as we arrived very late at night.
We wouldn’t hesitate recommended this Villa and hope to visit again soon. Thank you

Watching the Sunsets is amazing| September 2018
Hello Annie, Thank you for refunding the damage deposit. We had a lovely holiday and the villa is fabulous. We found the villa information pack extremely good and ate a lot of the restaurants which were recommended. All were really great. My only recommendation – and it is only small – is to get thinner cushions on the seating area overlooking the bay. The back rests are very thick and make the actual seating area small. As I said nothing serious just a suggestion as sitting down there having a drink and watching the sunset is amazing

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 weeks stay at Villa Joy| June 2018
The villa was perfect and we thoroughly enjoyed the 3 weeks. Liz and I thought everything has been well thought out. I would recommend putting suitable stickers on the fly screen door by the kitchen, I walked into it and split it, but these are tiny things and not a criticism at all! We would recommend your company to our friends and will hope to return one year, after visiting a few other places on our list .
Please pass on our thanks to the owners for letting us share their lovely home .

Exceptional 2nd Visit to Villa Joy| May/June 2018
Fortunately this was our 2nd visit to Villa Joy, this time we spent it with my Brother & Sister in Law, who were both looking for a very relaxing holiday, that included good food. We had all of the above once again, the villa is set with such high standards, the cleaniness throughout is superb. The kitchen has everything required and more, with a water cooler, much needed throughout the day (added bonus) The pool area is exceptional with amazing views over the sea, watching sunset of an evening is spectacular. We hired a car, as I like to explore the surrounding area for good food etc Yalikivac, Gumusluk, Terkertries three lovely areas for food right near the sea. Bodrum, about 50 mins in a car, picked up some lovely towels etc Annie from Peninsula Villas is a great communicator and sorts all the hiring and payments for the Villa and Marion met us at the Villa, and came back to us very promptly with any questions we had. Thank you ladies Villa Joy the name says it all.

Beautiful Villa, Stunning Views | Sept 2017
My husband and I ended up in Villa Joy when the original property we had rented fell through, however I am very pleased we did. The villa was beautiful and the views stunning. The property itself was immaculately clean and it is clearly very well looked after. The external of the property comes with a very large pool area, sun loungers and the lovely stone seating at the front which gives you a stunning view of the sunsets. The owners are obviously keen to ensure their guests have the best of everything and they most certainly have got it right. This is probably the nicest villa we have ever stayed in.
We found it difficult to drag ourselves away from the pool but it is worth venturing out to see the larger towns, such as Bodrum and the local markets.
Communication with Annie at Peninsula Villas Bodrum was excellent and all our questions were answered quickly and accurately. Thanks to, to Marion, the local manager who was waiting for us on arrival and again always on hand if we had any queries. Her help in ordering water from the delivery firm was appreciated.
The property is up a hill, and you do need a car to get around but that shouldn't put anyone off. You can walk down the hill of an evening and pick up a taxi at Migros, we used to call one if one didn't pass and it always turned up. We used taxis when we went to dinner in Gumersluk, which is delightful with little restaurants strung along the waterfront. We also did the same to Yalikavak which is further away but was a bigger than Gumersluk with more restaurants and a few bars.
Overall we were delighted with our holiday. A big thank you to Peninsula Villas Bodrum and Marion. We hope to visit this beautiful part of Turkey at some point again in the future.

Truly Blissful 5***** Luxury Villa | May/Jun 2017
What can we say about this beautiful amazing stunning villa This is the 5th visit to Yalikavak, Bodrum, Turkey and this property has been the best so far, a truly 5 star Villa with a secure location for any family visiting and views that are truly spectacular - Large 3 Bedrooms, all air conditioned and with stunning bathrooms + en-suite, clean and immaculate with so many utensils and kitchen equipment variety you only need to shop at the local Migros down the road (5 mins walk). A blissful large private pool with relaxing seating and plenty of comfy sun loungers. Booking Agent Annie from Peninsula Villas Bodrum is truly so helpful it just makes everything run like clock work, villa booking, airport pick up arranged by Annie with Hassan and his team in the New Mercedes Vito, breakage deposit payback and communication throughout was excellent , there is nothing Annie doesn't know about this area along with some useful high end restaurants we didn't know existed. Her colleague Marion (turkey resident) is on hand 24hr for assistance - and provided a comfortable , clean villa. Stunning to sit out and have an evening meal, totally relaxing holiday and with this been our very 1st review on Trip Advisor I would say to anyone reading this review, get in touch with Annie and do book. I don't think we would want to look elsewhere having used Villa Joy. We will Defiantly be back this year. Thank you to Marion for all her amazing assistance and help with everything we need to know about Villa Joy ,Yalikavak.

Tres Bon | Jul/Aug 2016
All and all we found the entire experience thoroughly relaxing. The Villa itself is increadible, we really couldn't fault the place. The owner quite clearer has a passion for perfection, and this was easily seen throughout the Villa with the choices of fittings etc. The view from the villa and seated area poolside were also second to none - so peaceful and just what was needed to recharge the batteries.

Villa Joy is very special| June 2016
We had a wonderful time, the wedding was fabulous and the villa was fantastic I miss getting up and seeing the views. The only problem we had was the water cooler but no big issue as we bought water at local Migros. Sara was very helpful. The villa was beautiful, the pool was excellent and we enjoyed sitting on the terrace looking at the view. Front door was a bit tricky to open but just had to get the knack. Would certainly look to book again if in that area, next holiday will probably be around Calis area would love to find similar accomodation as Villa Joy was very special. Many thanks Doreen

Stunning Villa, Incredible Views | May 2016
Booking the villa was very easy and secure and on arrival Sara was very helpful in settling us in. The villa itself is immaculately maintained and very well set out with everything you'd ever need with all the latest technology and kitchen utensils. The view is simply breath taking and you can just stare out onto the panoramic sea view for hours. The area is great although a car in necessary to visit the surrounding villages of Yalikavak and Gumusluk which have amazing fish restaurants which the villa owners give great recommendation, there is also a good sized supermarket very close by to stock up the fridge. There was no sign of any of the migrant crisis that have been seen in previous years and the locals were very kind and enthusiastic and very accommodating with our young child. We will certainly be back to Villa Joy and have left with some amazing memories of the holiday.
