Leyla's Place is a unique and very special stone built holiday home designed for summer outdoor living. It is not the typical Bodrum holiday villa but a beautiful, private airy house in a quiet location. This is a truly unique home in the Gokcebel village area of Yalikavak which combines generous sized rooms and a traditional feel which is lacking in most other holiday homes. The ambiance is 'inside out', relaxed summer living ... you will get the sounds of Summer from nature, you will get privacy and peace ...

Unlike many holiday homes in the Yalikavak area, Leyla's Place was not originally intended for renting. The villa has been furnished and designed for family use and family living, therefore you can't help but notice the 'homely' extras. Since 2015, Leyla's Place English/Turkish owners have opened up their home for rental guests to enjoy a true Turkish experience. For those looking for a super holiday home, not on the beaten track, Leyla's Place offers modern living, private pool, views and privacy in peaceful surroundings and only 5 minutes away from shops, supermarkets and buzzing Yalikavak centre and its Marina.

The villa is situated in a peaceful location but within a very short distance of restaurants, shops, beach and harbour in lively Yalikavak. Although the villa can sleep 6 in the main house, it is the perfect honeymoon spot or couples location for a really private retreat. And with the guest suite in use, sleeping an extra 2, this is the ideal venue for family reunions or groups of friends.

Location: Gokcebel Village, Yalikavak, Bodrum. 3.5 km from Palmarina, Yalikavak
Located on the hillside overlooking Gokcebel village and Yalikavak bay, the villa blends into it's natural surroundings of stone, hillside shrubs and green olive trees.
Gokcebel village is on the outskirts of Yalikavak and only a 5 minute drive to main supermarkets and less than 10 minutes to the centre of Yalikavak. Leyla's Place is in a semi-rural location and accessed via private track. There is no passing traffic at this location
Exterior: Very Private Pool and Private Gardens. Sea and natural views
There is a beautiful private swimming pool set in the gardens of the villa with sunbeds and large comfortable cushions on the terraced area surrounding the pool. The pool terrace has both full sun and shade under a pergola. There's a spacious terrace around the pool, which is flanked by the backdrop of the hillside and provides stunning views across the valley to Gokcebel, Yalikavak and the sea. Two large shaded balconies are perfect for alfresco lunches/dinners and enjoying aperitifs in the evening watching the sunset. Why not also enjoy dinner on the ground terrace with its BBQ.

Private balconies on two levels provide wonderful views over Gokcebel village, Yalikavak bay and Leyla's Place gardens. The house is set in extensive grounds in citrus, fig and olive gardens. Organic vegetables including aubergines, onions, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, watermelons are grown and the gardener will provide you with any of the above if you wish.

The pool is cleaned daily and gardens tended by Aytekin (caretaker) who will be pleased to offer you fresh fruit and vegetables from the gardens. Apparently, he is a master at BBQing and will be more than pleased to BBQ for you during your stay.
NOTE RE BBQ: Please check with Aytekin before BBQing as depending on the breeze, it can be a fire hazard.

The beaches and coves around Yalikavak and Gundoğan are within a 10/15 minute drive from the villa. The larger sandy beaches on the south side of the Peninsula are all within a 25 minute drive. Gumusuluk with lagoon like swimming and great snorkeling is a 20/25 minute drive away.

On the Bodrum Peninsula buildings are not permitted to be built more than 2 stories high, and there are no buildings higher than 3 stories in the whole Peninsula. This tends to make the area look particularly attractive. Most of the buildings are white washed cubes, similar to those in the Greek Islands. This is because this part of Turkey used to belong to Greece and some of the Greek Islands used to belong to Turkey. As you can imagine, there is a lot of history around the area.

History
Archaeological excavations have established that human habitation in the Yalikavak area began in around 2000BC, and there are ruins and artefacts from the Carian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman eras. The historic sites such as Sandima, Pasanda (Geris), Kandiba and Termil (Dirmil/Gökçebel) attract visitors from all over the world. Yalikavak is famous for the numerous windmills found in the vicinity. The winds, that until recently turned the vanes of these working windmills, now fill the sails of boats and windsurfs. Another “typical” feature found in abundance here are domed water cisterns which, in the past, were used in times of drought and are now being adapted for artistic and cultural uses.

A 20 minute road journey will take you to Bodrum Centre with its historic castle which was built from 1402 onwards, by the Knights of St John as the Castle of St. Peter or Petronium. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus is also located in Bodrum town.

Ferry trips to the Greek island of Kos can be made from Turgutreis and Bodrum
Further afield you can visit Ephesus, the largest archaeological site in the world, the stunning pools at Pamukkale, the royal rock tombs at Dalyan, and the temple of Apollo at Didim.

Yalikavak
Yalikavak's town centre has retained its traditional Turkish charm. With its simple but stylish laid back atmosphere and friendly welcoming locals, this is its main attraction and the reason why holidaymakers return to the area year after year. Along the coast road en-route from the villa to Yalikavak you will pass some of the best fish restaurants on the Bodrum Peninsula huddled together in their own 'fish restaurant village' area. A couple of minutes further on takes you to Yalikavak's fashionable new Marina (Palmarina) with super yachts, gullets and sail boats visiting from all around the world. The Marina is home to smart shops, bars, restaurants and a beach club which hosts open air concerts during high summer.

The centre of Bodrum is less than 20 minutes from here with its own smart Marina, town centre shops and, of course, the famous Bodrum Castle. Bodrum town has fabulous shops in the Marina area and also along the narrow streets of the old town near the Castle. At night, the Marina has open air live music starting at 10pm until the early hours nightly during high summer.

Yalikavak has supermarkets, banks, ATMs, Taxi ranks, bus station, petrol stations etc.

A car is essential for this location. The dolmus (public transport minibus) runs along the main road from Yalikavak to Gundogan, this is near the Migros supermarket (which is 1km, 5 mins drive away).

Distances: Bodrum town is 15 mins drive; Yalikavak is 5 mins drive, Gundogan is 10 mins drive and Gumusluk fishing village and harbour restaurants are 20 mins drive in the opposite direction

Turgutreis is 25 mins drive : Nearest supermarket, Migros, 1.5km - 5 min drive

A Taste of Paradis| June 2016
We stayed for a week in this idyllic villa. The house is secluded, which was what we were looking for. It is situated in its own spacious grounds beautifully landscaped and filled with oleander, roses and citrus trees. The gardens are tended by Aytekin, who is invaluable, as he keeps the house, pool and garden immaculate. Fresh produce from the garden such as tomatoes, cucumbers, fruits of all kinds are collected daily. A vegetarian heaven! The house is built overlooking the peninsula and views are breathtaking. The interior is beautiful with wooden floors throughout and has a colonial feel. For us it was beautifully cool even at night but in August you might want the air-conditioning, which is in all bedrooms. We loved it so much that we returned, having already come last June. Despite, in our view, over anxious concerns in the press regarding visits to Turkey, we can only say that we found Yalikavak and Bodrum itself to be lively, colourful places, filled with holiday makers, both Turkish and foreign, enjoying the markets, the beach and restaurants in relaxed holiday mode, just as it has always been. This is a beautiful area and Leyla's Place the ideal spot from which to enjoy it.

Highly Recommended | August 2015
We have stayed at Leyla’s Place for the last four years, with a minimum stay of 10 days, having always enjoyed our holidays there. This year we booked our holiday via Annie at Peninsula Villas, for ten days in July. The booking and payment process was straightforward. Leyla’s Place is located between Yalikavak and Gundogan. It is in a beautiful position, on a hillside, overlooking Yalikavak - with amazing sea views and sunsets! From the villa, we have visited Ephesus on a day trip, explored some of the closer Greek Islands and this year we spent three days in Istanbul before flying down to Milas and on to the Villa. Although off the beaten track, the villa is approached along an unmade road which is easy to negotiate. It is only a short drive to the local supermarkets and bakery. The house itself is a large multi-level traditional stone family villa with all amenities and everything you would need for a wonderful self-catering holiday. There is a well equipped kitchen, a large homely furnished living area and comfortable bedrooms, with fans and some air conditioning. We enjoyed meals on the veranda, overlooking the beautiful gardens and the surrounding landscape. Our days were spent relaxing by the well maintained pool with a plethora of loungers, cushions, a hammock and sufficient shade to avoid the mid-day heat. The caretaker, Aytekin, was friendly, courteous and always helpful; providing us with fresh fruit and vegetables from the villa’s gardens and offering to prepare a BBQ. His wife cooks delicious local meals on request for a small fee. Yalikavak is a small town with lots of restaurants, serving traditional food. It has a lovely old harbour and a new Palmarina with a large selection of designer shops, bars and restaurants. There is a local, vibrant market on Thursdays. We had a wonderful holiday and couldn’t fault anything. We plan to book again for 2016, but for a longer period next time.
