The Turkish Aegean Coast Region

On the Bodrum Peninsula buildings are not permitted to be built more than 2 stories high, and there are no buildings higher than 3 stories in the whole Peninsula. This tends to make the area look particularly attractive. Most of the buildings are white washed cubes, similar to those in the Greek Islands. This is because this part of Turkey used to belong to Greece and some of the Greek Islands used to belong to Turkey. As you can imagine, there is a lot of history around the area.

History
Archaeological excavations have established that human habitation in the Yalikavak area began in around 2000BC, and there are ruins and artefacts from the Carian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman eras. The historic sites such as Sandima, Pasanda (Geris), Kandiba and Termil (Dirmil/Gökçebel) attract visitors from all over the world. Yalikavak is famous for the numerous windmills found in the vicinity. The winds, that until recently turned the vanes of these working windmills, now fill the sails of boats and windsurfs. Another “typical” feature found in abundance here are domed water cisterns which, in the past, were used in times of drought and are now being adapted for artistic and cultural uses.

A 20 minute road journey will take you to Bodrum Centre with its historic castle which was built from 1402 onwards, by the Knights of St John as the Castle of St. Peter or Petronium. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus is also located in Bodrum town.

Ferry trips to the Greek island of Kos can be made from Turgutreis and Bodrum
Further afield you can visit Ephesus, the largest archaeological site in the world, the stunning pools at Pamukkale, the royal rock tombs at Dalyan, and the temple of Apollo at Didim.

Gumusluk
Whether you are having your holiday in one of the resorts on Bodrum Peninsula or in Gumusluk, reward yourself with a day at Gumusluk Bay. Gumusluk is a small village at the tip of the Bodrum Peninsula about 30 minutes drive from Bodrum itself. This peaceful traffic free village seems a world away from the hustle and bustle of modern life, away from the well-trodden tourist track in central Bodrum. The whitewashed houses are covered with colorful flowers.

Head for the two narrow sandy beaches and take your swimming gear, each curling around its own bay and separated by a beautiful rounded islet. At Gumusluk harbour visitors can explore Rabbit Island walking through history along an ancient causeway, enjoying the sun, refreshing yourself in the crystal clear sea are only some examples of what Gumusluk Bay offers visitors. Once you've had enough of sunbathing and swimming in the calm, clear waters, sip a local beer (Efes) or chilled wine at a friendly fish restaurant or cafe along the waterfront, for which the village is famous and where you can sometimes choose your own fish straight from the fisherman's crate or wade through the shallows to the offshore Rabbit Island.

Gumusluk village, is about 25 km from Bodrum and 1km from Gumusluk bay. In the village you will find the post office and local shops including hardware stores, pharmacies, butchers, plumbers, electricians, and carpenters that line the two sides of the street.

Weekly market day is Wednesday in Gumusluk.

Yalikavak
Yalikavak's town centre has retained its traditional Turkish charm. With its simple but stylish laid back atmosphere and friendly welcoming locals, this is its main attraction and the reason why holidaymakers return to the area year after year. Along the coast road en-route from the villa to Yalikavak you will pass some of the best fish restaurants on the Bodrum Peninsula huddled together in their own 'fish restaurant village' area. A couple of minutes further on takes you to Yalikavak's fashionable new Marina (Palmarina) with super yachts, gullets and sail boats visiting from all around the world. The Marina is home to smart shops, bars, restaurants and a beach club which hosts open air concerts during high summer.

The centre of Bodrum is approx 25 minutes from here with its own smart Marina, town centre shops and, of course, the famous Bodrum Castle. Bodrum town has fabulous shops in the Marina area and also along the narrow streets of the old town near the Castle. At night, the Marina has open air live music starting at 10pm until the early hours nightly during high summer.

Yalikavak and Turgutreis have supermarkets, banks, ATMs, Taxi ranks, bus station, petrol stations etc.

A car is advised for this location. The dolmus (public transport minibus) runs along the main road from Gumusluk to Turgutreis.

Distances: Turgutreis is 10/15 mins drive; Yalikavak is 15 mins drive in the opposite direction

Nearest supermarket, Migros Koyunbaba, 1.6 km - 4 min drive

Guest Feedback for holidays at Villa Shereen

We Loved Villa Shereen | August 2019
Dear Annie, Firstly, can I thank you and your company for all the friendly and helpful contact you have given us prior to and since our holiday. The extensive information regarding local restaurants and day trips was fantastic. I would definitely recommend Peninsula Villas to anyone visiting this region of Turkey.
Regarding Villa Shereen, we loved it. It was very clean and tidy. Everything has been thought of and there was plenty of crockery, cutlery, bowls and storage containers. Towels were of a good quality and we loved the furniture on the upstairs balcony - very comfortable for an afternoon cup of tea - and what an incredibly view. We loved the villa’s proximity to one of the on- site pools and we were usually the only ones there. We have no complaints at all. Thank you to the owners and Hurdem for thinking of everything.

Best Experience Ever | July 2019
Dear Annie, This was the Best experience ever!! Every minor problem we had Hurdem fixed right away. Everyone, including you, were very helpful. I was so pleased that i went to trustpilot to rate you guys. Because when i booked myself, i noticed there was not any rating of the site on trustpilot, so for the coming guests to be more open to book through you guys i made this happen. That is how pleased we were of the experiance.
My Review on Trust Pilot: We rented a villa in gumusluk Bodrum. We had no problems with booking the villa, and everything went smoothly. There were some minor problems with a door and the shower, but the villa owner sent someone to fix these things, free of charge. So we did not loose anything of our deposit. And Annie the representativ of the site was very helpful with everything we wanted to know. Overal a super experience, and i really mean this from the bottom of my heart. Ps. This is not a fake comment.

Lovely villa, great views, safe and tranquil | July 2018
We stayed at Villa Shereen with our two children, having decided to select a villa with a shared pool. The villa itself is very well equipped, clean and has a great location overlooking the Turkish and Greek islands. It is a short walk to a large, well maintained pool which we generally had to ourselves during our stay. There is another pool that guests of Villa Shereen can use but we didn't get that far. The area of Gümüşlük is excellent and we found many things to do to keep the children and ourselves entertained. It was also great to have so many recommendations made by Peninsula Villas before we arrived. The whole booking process and account management from Peninsula Villas was excellent; we would not hesitate to recommend.

Very spacious, lots of room upstairs and great views | August 2017
Thanks for all your help with booking the 2 villas at short notice.
The 1st villa with the pool (Roya) was great and we have no complaints at all with either villa. We shared some photos on facebook to friends who are interested for next year so I'll pass your details on.
Maybe mention that the restaurant that is recommended the Limon Tree has to be booked at least 9 days in advance now!
The 2nd villa (Shereen) was very spacious and had lots of room upstairs and great views. We had a small leak in the bathroom upstairs at the side of the shower, so we only used the downstairs one until Hurdem arranged for the leak to be fixed. If you could pass on our thanks to both owners for the late booking and I'll recommend Peninsula Villas to our friends

Immaculate Villa and Development with Fantastic Views| Sept 2015
We had an excellent stay at Villa Shereen in August 2015. If you're looking for a very quiet and very nicely maintained development, this villa should definitely be on your list. The villa was meticulously clean and had everything you would need for your stay, but of course, the most impressive thing was the fantastic view! The villa was also well separated from neighbouring properties, as are all the villas on the development, so offered a good deal of privacy. Our experience of booking through Peninsula Villa Care was also very positive. Annie Burnett was extremely helpful throughout our booking process, helping us to choose a villa that exactly suited our needs and our local contact, Hurdem, was always available when required. A great holiday and we would recommend Villa Shereen without hesitation.
