Karakaya Villa Gumusluk, Bodrum Peninsula,Turkey is beautifully chic in style, set in a private, serene location and has stunning natural views reaching out towards the Aegean sea. More information on this area:
The Turkish Aegean Coast Region
On the Bodrum Peninsula buildings are not permitted to be built more than 2 stories high, and there are no buildings higher than 3 stories in the whole Peninsula. This tends to make the area look particularly attractive. Most of the buildings are white washed cubes, similar to those in the Greek Islands. This is because this part of Turkey used to belong to Greece and some of the Greek Islands used to belong to Turkey. As you can imagine, there is a lot of history around the area.
Archaeological excavations have established that human habitation in the Yalikavak area began in around 2000BC, and there are ruins and artefacts from the Carian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman eras. The historic sites such as Sandima, Pasanda (Geris), Kandiba and Termil (Dirmil/Gökçebel) attract visitors from all over the world. Yalikavak is famous for the numerous windmills found in the vicinity. The winds, that until recently turned the vanes of these working windmills, now fill the sails of boats and windsurfs. Another “typical” feature found in abundance here are domed water cisterns which, in the past, were used in times of drought and are now being adapted for artistic and cultural uses.
A 20 minute road journey will take you to Bodrum Centre with its historic castle which was built from 1402 onwards, by the Knights of St John as the Castle of St. Peter or Petronium. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus is also located in Bodrum town.
Ferry trips to the Greek island of Kos can be made from Turgutreis and Bodrum
Further afield you can visit Ephesus, the largest archaeological site in the world, the stunning pools at Pamukkale, the royal rock tombs at Dalyan, and the temple of Apollo at Didim.
Gumusluk itself is a small town which has survived obstinately with its fishing boats on the coast, authentic coffee houses and popular fish restaurants. With an exceptional history and a magnificent nature, Gumusluk continues to be the gem of the Peninsula and the firm favorite of intellectuals, artists and art-aficionados as well as all who are familiar with Bodrum. Close to everywhere yet away from the hustle and bustle of some of the larger Peninsula towns, this unpretentious and tranquil spot is an exceptional location for a relaxing villa stay in beautiful natural surroundings.
Yalikavak's town centre has retained its traditional Turkish charm. With its simple but stylish laid back atmosphere and friendly welcoming locals, this is its main attraction and the reason why holidaymakers return to the area year after year. Along the coast road en-route from the villa to Yalikavak you will pass some of the best fish restaurants on the Bodrum Peninsula huddled together in their own 'fish restaurant village' area. A couple of minutes further on takes you to Yalikavak's fashionable new Marina (Palmarina) with super yachts, gullets and sail boats visiting from all around the world. The Marina is home to smart shops, bars, restaurants and a beach club which hosts open air concerts during high summer.
The centre of Bodrum is less than 20 minutes from here with its own smart Marina, town centre shops and, of course, the famous Bodrum Castle. Bodrum town has fabulous shops in the Marina area and also along the narrow streets of the old town near the Castle. At night, the Marina has open air live music starting at 10pm until the early hours nightly during high summer.
Yalikavak, Gumusluk and Turgutreis have supermarkets, banks, ATMs, Taxi ranks, bus station, petrol stations etc.
A car is essential for this location. The dolmus (public transport minibus) runs along the main roads around Gumusluk and can take you into Bodrum and all other Peninsula towns. To walk to this point will take approx 20 mins and is only 1.5 km distance.
Distances: Bodrum town is 20/25 mins from Karakaya Villa; Yalikavak is 15/20 mins drive, Gumusluk fishing village and harbour restaurants are 5/8 mins drive
Turgutreis is 15 mins drive 8.5km : Nearest supermarket, Migros, 1 km - 15 minute walk, 2 min drive

Guest Feedback for holidays at Villa Karakaya

Beautiful Luxury Villa | August 2020
Finally managed to get away this Summer and to this beautiful luxury villa up the mountain. It’s very scenic and luxury villa with everything you need and lovely gated community. The pool is perfect temperature, get the perfect breeze for the heat and lots of space to just relax in. Also villa owners have provided all you need such as balls and other items for the pool, inflatables etc. There is a maintenance person on site that will fix any issues and they are very efficient at doing so. Overall a lovely villa, and lovely serene spot with surrounding hills for a really relaxing time. Highly recommend. We booked via Peninsula Villaa Bodrum and they are amazing. Best customer service I’ve received from booking a villa, felt like being looked after by one of the World’s top hotels customer service team.

Karakaya Villa was Everything we Imagined | September 2019
Hi Annie, We had a wonderful stay at villa karakaya the villa was everything I had imagined and the location was perfect for us as we have Friends in both bodrum and Turgutreis. We will definitely be returning to bodrum next year and if not karakaya may stay in one of your other villas in Yalikavak/Gümüşlük. The only thing Sinan did note was that the front door was difficult to open. He also would have liked air con in the kitchen although with the size of the room I understand why there is none installed, this didn’t bother me but Sinan is the only Turk I have met that doesn’t like heat or sun!

Peaceful Setting and Lovely Views | June 2017
Everything was great and we had a very pleasant stay. As well, Hurdem was very helpful and responsive. We liked the villa alot it was at the level of privacy that we are looking for, although the only comment we had is that the AC was'nt that good but it was fixed. Therefore, in our future plans when we decide to go to Bodrum, Peninsulavillas will definitely be our choice.

Peaceful Setting and Lovely Views | October 2016
We did indeed have a very enjoyable stay. It was exactly what was required. The peaceful setting and lovely views from the villa were especially nice. There really isn't much that I could find fault without sounding pedantic. All the appliances worked fine and we had no great issues getting to feel at home. The water in the showers in the annex and the shared downstairs bathroom did take a while to drain away, a minor problem which I'm sure the plumber can fix. The temperature of the water in the swimming pool was on the chilly side at the end of October (didn't stop me using it tho!) but I expect this is normal for this time of year as on the flip side there was a nice cooling breeze in the evening. Maybe two sets of keys would be useful as there was always a minor battle to be in posession of that. Apart from these insignificant matters everything was perfect, thank you.
