3 Bedrooms : 1 Bathroom plus cloakroom with W/C wash basin: Sleeps 6
UNSPOILT TURKEY at its best - The HIDEAWAY, a beautiful family villa in a traditional Turkish village (Gokcebel) just on the fringes of the popular cosmopolitan resort of Yalikavak, Bodrum Peninsula. The Hideaway is an original Bodrum summer house that was architecturally renovated 12 years ago. It is now a charming, beautifully kept and traditionally styled villa with exceptionally private pool, gardens and roof terrace with sea views. It is a real hideaway and a serene haven family villa. You have the best of both Worlds here with the peace and tranquility of your holiday home but with Yalikavak and all its amenities a short 5/10 minutes drive away (approx 3-4kms).
The beauty of this house is its coolness in the heat of summer, there is also Air Conditioning in all bedrooms. The ground floor was converted to a large open plan kitchen, living and dining area. The through breezes that this openness provides means this ground floor is alway a cool and easy living area. The dining area opens out on to a west facing front terrace, a cool refuge during the heat of the day. The interior has been tastefully and characterfully decorated incorporating old traditional Turkish artefacts and textiles along with New Zealand art, reflecting the origins of the owner.
Gokcebel is the location of choice for many non Turkish home owners in the area, due to its authentic feel and peaceful way of life but also having everything else close by. There is a village shop just 5 minute's walk and a large supermarket (MMMigros) 15 minute's walk or a 5 minute drive. A big attraction is Havva Ana, a well known traditional Turkish restaurant serving Turkish breakfasts - less than 5 mins walk away,
The Hideaway's private grounds are walled and gated with an entrance gate which takes you into the front garden with the option of using the front door or the back. Generally the back entrance is easier for inside access especially when carrying luggage and shopping, the rear entrance leads directly via the back door into the kitchen area.
Entering the house from the back, first left is a guest bathroom with WC and wash basin and the laundry area with washing machine etc. To the right is a pantry that is kept locked by owner.
The rest of the downstairs area is open plan with arches to the open plan kitchen, living room and dining room. A terrace leads from the dining area, this is a haven in the heat of summer as it has comfortable seating and is protected from sunlight until well into the late afternoon. The kitchen has a gas hob, electric oven, a dish washer and fridge freezer. It is fully equipped with all cooking and serving utensils and crockery.
Between the kitchen/internal dining area is the beautiful appointed light and airy living room with open fire place. The dining area opens to a covered balcony, a much appreciated place during the hot summer month as well as during the mild but rainy winters. A storage room and a spacious guest bathroom complete this floor.
The living room is a comfortable sitting area at any time of the day as it has plenty of light, windows that offer a through breeze in the heat of the day but no direct sunlight. It is interestingly decorated with Turkish artefacts and carpets with a touch of Oceania!
The entire downstairs area is floored with terra cotta tiles. There are radiators in this, and all areas of the house making this a property for all seasons .
Stairs lead to the landing hallway, sleeping area and bathroom. The bathroom is a generous size, with an excellent power shower, walk-in shower and a wonderful view overlooking the back garden, pool and the uninhabited hillside beyond. To the right is the smaller light filled double bedroom with fitted wardrobe and the same view as the bathroom. Off the hallway is then the twin bedroom on the right, this opens onto a balcony shared with the master bedroom and a view beyond the village out to the sea.
The spacious and light filled master bedroom, opens onto a beautiful private terrace with views over the village and out to the sea. This terrace also has an entrance from the adjoining twin bedroom. The master bedroom is the size of a studio with its generous and comfortable couch, fitted wardrobes and a TV and video player. Again plenty of light, this room has access to the shared balcony and a through breeze provided by the windows and balcony door. All bedrooms have Air Conditioning, the master bedroom also has a ceiling fan.
The stairs then lead up to the spacious roof terrace that has wonderful views looking out over the hills and to the sea. it is a perfect place to watch the sun setting behind the hills beyond, from the built in cushion clad seating.
Internet is available through the building and most parts of the garden
There is a Bose dock av available.
Entering from the back of the house into a small tiled area (that is easily reached from the kitchen area) is a private and good shaded breakfast area and barbecue area for evening BBQs. A few steps then lead to the pool area. The pool dimensions are 3.5m wide by 5.50m long and 1.4m depth of water. The pool is especially accessible to children and adults, it has three proper walk-in steps into the pool which are the full width of the pool, children can play here in a shallow safe environment and also means the pool can be easily entered by the elderly or those who can’t swim.
Behind the pool is a wisteria clad pergola that offers wonderful shade in the heat of summer. The fixed seating has numerous cushions that can be used if required. There are also sun lounges available for use in the back area. This whole back area is enclosed in private seclusion, provided by tall oleander and bay trees.
Location: Gokcebel, Yalikavak, Bodrum Peninsula
Located in a quiet residential area just on the fringes of Yalikavak. Gökcebel is part of Yalikavak, and the town and Marina is reached within under a 10 minute drive.
The house is 5 minutes walk to the local general store and 15 minutes downhill walk to Migros supermarket, a very well provided supermarket. There is a local produce market on one side of the village on a Tuesday and on the other side behind Migros on a Sunday.
Exterior: Very Private Pool and Private Walled Gardens
The private swimming pool has a very comfortable cushion filled sitting area under a pergola of wisteria leaves.
The back garden is enclosed by tall trees on all fence lines, providing privacy in all seating areas and the pool. There is a seating area close to the kitchen that is perfect in the mornings for eating breakfast in shady and private surroundings.
A roof terrace with built-in cushioned sitting area is a favourite spot during the evenings, to enjoy the breeze and watch the sunset over the bay.

The Turkish Aegean Coast region
On the Bodrum Peninsula buildings are not permitted to be built more than 2 stories high, and there are no buildings higher than 3 stories in the whole Peninsula. This tends to make the area look particularly attractive. Most of the buildings are white washed cubes, similar to those in the Greek Islands. This is because this part of Turkey used to belong to Greece and some of the Greek Islands used to belong to Turkey. As you can imagine, there is a lot of history around the area.
Archaeological excavations have established that human habitation in the Yalikavak area began in around 2000BC, and there are ruins and artefacts from the Carian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman eras. The historic sites such as Sandima, Pasanda (Geris), Kandiba and Termil (Dirmil/Gökçebel) attract visitors from all over the world. Yalikavak is famous for the numerous windmills found in the vicinity. The winds, that until recently turned the vanes of these working windmills, now fill the sails of boats and windsurfs. Another “typical” feature found in abundance here are domed water cisterns which, in the past, were used in times of drought and are now being adapted for artistic and cultural uses.
A 20 minute road journey will take you to Bodrum Centre with its historic castle which was built from 1402 onwards, by the Knights of St John as the Castle of St. Peter or Petronium. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus is also located in Bodrum town.
Ferry trips to the Greek island of Kos can be made from Turgutreis and Bodrum
Further afield you can visit Ephesus, the largest archaeological site in the world, the stunning pools at Pamukkale, the royal rock tombs at Dalyan, and the temple of Apollo at Didim.
Yalikavak's town centre has retained its traditional Turkish charm. With its simple but stylish laid back atmosphere and friendly welcoming locals, this is its main attraction and the reason why holidaymakers return to the area year after year. Along the coast road en-route from the villa to Yalikavak you will pass some of the best fish restaurants on the Bodrum Peninsula huddled together in their own 'fish restaurant village' area. A couple of minutes further on takes you to Yalikavak's fashionable new Marina (Palmarina) with super yachts, gullets and sail boats visiting from all around the world. The Marina is home to smart shops, bars, restaurants and a beach club which hosts open air concerts during high summer.
Gokcebel is a small village, but really a suburb of Yalikavak, these days. It is known as the location of choice for ex-pat residents, non-Turkish owners and Turkish families who have their summer holiday homes here due to the quiet location but closeness to the resort of Yalikavak itself. In Gokcebel daily village life goes at a slow pace, don't be surprised to see village ladies pulling their cattle along the roads to their fields; don't be surprised to see multi-million $, Euro or £ properties high on the tree clad hillsides overlooking Yalikavak, this is an area where simple village houses mingle with super villas.
The centre of Bodrum is less than 20 minutes from here with its own smart Marina, town centre shops and, of course, the famous Bodrum Castle. Bodrum town has fabulous shops in the Marina area and also along the narrow streets of the old town near the Castle. At night, the Marina has open air live music starting at 10pm until the early hours nightly during high summer.
Yalikavak has supermarkets, banks, ATMs, Taxi ranks, bus station, petrol stations etc.
A car is essential for this location. The dolmus (public transport minibus) runs along the main road from Yalikavak to Gundogan, this is near the Migros supermarket (which is 1km, 5 mins drive away).
Distances: Bodrum town is 15 mins drive; Yalikavak is 5 mins drive, Gundogan is 10 mins drive and Gumusluk fishing village and harbour restaurants are 20 mins drive in the opposite direction
Turgutreis is 25 mins drive : Nearest supermarket, Migros, 1.5km - 5 min drive
Local buses (Dolmus) go to most local villages as well as Bodrum and are a cheap way of getting around. Other towns worth a visit by bus are Yalikavak, Gundgoan, Gumusluk, Akyarlar, Karaincir and buses to these run about every 20 mins or so until late at night.

Guest Feedback for holidays at The Hideaway Villa

I'm not sure we can fault it, it was fantastic - July/Aug 2018
With regards to the villa, I’m not sure I can fault it, it was fantastic . We are a family of four including two children of 5 and 11 and we all enjoyed it very much, every detail was thought of and we were pleasantly surprised to find it so well equipped and with a great supply of books! The personal touches, furniture and artwork all made for a beautifully designed property.
We were slightly worried about being a little outside of town with no car, but once we got the hang of it taxis were very easy. Yalikavak is beautiful and such a relaxing place. We loved how Turkish it was and not overrun with tourism.
With regards to booking etc that was all very easy, Marion was available on whatsapp to answer any questions.
Thank you for all of your help and knowledge in the beginning, we cannot wait to come back soon!

The most beautiful place to unwind, relax, explore and enjoy it all in lovely Turkey - July 2018
We had the loveliest family time in Gokchebel. The house is very comfortable and beautifully decorated and in a quiet street. it has a great pool to hang around or watch the sunset with a G&T from the roof top at the end of the day. It is very handy to Beautiful Yalikavak with the market, great beach and cafés to sit at watched Ng the world go by. And of course a trip to Bodrum for handbag shopping is a must. There are plenty of possibilities to go hiking. It is just an amazing and most interesting area to be in with very friendly people.

Perfect hidden gem villa for a wonderful holiday - May 2018
Our stay ( 3 adults and 2 teenagers) was wonderful! We just loved the house, it has everything you need. It is stylishly decorated, lots of places to sit comfortably in and around the house: in the sun and shade, just perfect! The photo's don't do it justice, the garden, the pool area, the views from the roof terraces are magnificent. This is a great family and/or friends villa for a very relaxing holiday. The peaceful village is a 10 minute drive from the lovely beach in Yallikavak and there are plenty of beaches around the area to enjoy. Yallikavak has all you need: good restaurants, lovely shops, great markets and a very friendly atmosphere. We booked online with Annie at Peninsula villas Bodrum, a safe (incl. the payment system) and reliable company. Annie responds quickly and is professional. We will definitely visit again!
