More information on this area:
The Turkish Aegean Coast region

On the Bodrum Peninsula buildings are not permitted to be built more than 2 stories high, and there are no buildings higher than 3 stories in the whole Peninsula. This tends to make the area look particularly attractive. Most of the buildings are white washed cubes, similar to those in the Greek Islands. This is because this part of Turkey used to belong to Greece and some of the Greek Islands used to belong to Turkey. As you can imagine, there is a lot of history around the area.

History
Archaeological excavations have established that human habitation in the Yalikavak area began in around 2000BC, and there are ruins and artefacts from the Carian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman eras. The historic sites such as Sandima, Pasanda (Geris), Kandiba and Termil (Dirmil/Gökçebel) attract visitors from all over the world. Yalikavak is famous for the numerous windmills found in the vicinity. The winds, that until recently turned the vanes of these working windmills, now fill the sails of boats and windsurfs. Another “typical” feature found in abundance here are domed water cisterns which, in the past, were used in times of drought and are now being adapted for artistic and cultural uses.

A 20 minute road journey will take you to Bodrum Centre with its historic castle which was built from 1402 onwards, by the Knights of St John as the Castle of St. Peter or Petronium. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus is also located in Bodrum town.

Ferry trips to the Greek island of Kos can be made from Turgutreis and Bodrum
Further afield you can visit Ephesus, the largest archaeological site in the world, the stunning pools at Pamukkale, the royal rock tombs at Dalyan, and the temple of Apollo at Didim.

Yalikavak
Yalikavak, 18 km away from Bodrum centre on the North Western tip of the Bodrum Peninsula, has grown in size over recent years, but remains still very much a place where the locals welcome holidaymakers with open arms. The permanent inhabitants of Yalikavak number around 6,800 people. Yalikavak is becoming ever more popular as an alternative resort to Bodrum. The small harbour is surrounded by restaurants and bars, and while there is the occasional disco bar, the general atmosphere is quiet, unhurried and relaxed, yet further along the shoreline is a new sophisticated Marina.

Approaching Yalikavak from Bodrum you cannot help but notice the stunning panoramic view of Yalikavak Bay. This fertile coastal region is ideal for sailing and all water sports and attracts many foreign yachts to the Marina and old harbour that once sheltered mainly fishing boats.

FISHING & SEAFOOD
Yalikavak still supports a thriving fishing industry and the restaurants around the picturesque harbour and marina display a wide selection of fresh fish every day. The town is known for its excellent seafood restaurants - try Sait, you won't be disappointed.

RESTAURANTS
Yalikavak has a huge selection of restaurants to suit all tastes.

SHOPPING AND WEEKLY VENDOR'S MARKET
There are many shops in the traffic free centre, selling local wares and tourist items.
Every Tuesday is the colourful food market and Thursday is clothes, textiles and wares market.

YALIKAVAK MARINA
Just a few minutes walk along the shoreline from the centre of Yalikvak is the Marina. The Marina is home to many large yachts and is visited by yachts from all over the world in summer. It has stylish shops and several restaurants and cafes, plus a seaside 2,500 seater Amphitheatre used for open air concerts and fashion shows during the summer months.

BEACHES
The main beach in Yalikavak is long and narrow and lined with a few restaurants. It is easy to sit back and not worry where your next drink or meal will come from! Yalikavak's beach is never busy and you won't be sandwiched in amongst sun loungers. Away from the harbour end of town, the quieter the beach becomes. Yalikavak is always said to be a little cooler in the summer than other parts of the region due to the gentle offshore breezes. Whereas Bodrum is hot, in all respects, in summer.

Yalikavak is renowned for its superb sunsets and unspoilt shoreline. Its sparkling clean sea is one of the few remaining abodes of the endangered “Monachus Monachus” Mediterranean seals and therefore a protected area. In 2002 Yalikavak Bay was awarded the "Blue Flag" for its clean waters.

Yalikavak has supermarkets, banks, ATMs, Taxi ranks, bus station, petrol stations etc.

A car is advised for this location but not absolutely necessary as the dolmus minibus runs along the top access road near the villa

Amazing Villa - Most Stunning Views | August 2022
Just arrived home after 11 nights at Aegean 220 and it was a brilliant holiday. Great villa, with the most amazing view of Yalikavak. The facilities were excellent, especially the air con. The villa has lots of chill out areas, comfortable sofas. It had every thing we needed for a family holiday. The service we received was excellent, great recommendations and support when needed.

Fabulous Villa and Reliable Villa Agency | July 2022
We stayed at Villa Aegean 220 in 2019 and 2022. The villa is stunning - fabulous views and many seating areas so you can catch the sun or shade any time of the day. Clean and well equipped. Photos are an accurate representation. Out of town and up a big hill (hence the great views) so a car is useful but not essential (taxis into town are cheap and plentiful - you just need to walk down the first hill to the main road and flag one down). The town is lovely - big enough to offer a choice of bars and restaurants but not as loud / busy as Bodrum so very relaxing. Bodrum can be reached by bus from the centre (45-60 minutes depending on the time of day).
Thoroughly recommend the one day boat trip for which you can find details in the brochure (expensive but was the highlight of both holidays). Also thoroughly recommend using Peninsula Villas. Annie always responds to queries in a prompt, friendly and informative way. The transfer from/to the airport she arranged for us was reliable and reasonable (much easier and more reliable than trying to book your own taxi - many drivers (even very local ones) do not seem to know where the villa is.
Going beyond the usual service you would expect from an agency - Annie even very kindly arranged for some clothes that we left behind to be brought back to the UK and then posted back to us (thanks to villa manager Carley and Catherine too for making this happen). I was very impressed with Annie and her team and would not hesitate in using the company again when visiting the Bodrum Peninsula. In these still uncertain times it is very reassuring to know you can absolutely trust the company to provide provide a high quality service time and time again.

Returning Guest Family to Aegean 220| September 2017
As a returning guest family of 5 to Aegean 220 we found it was very clean (we could see a difference from the last time we came) & comfortable with a well equipped kitchen. We could see improvements had been made since our last stay and these were all to the good - especially the added water cooler which was a real plus! We enjoyed the seating areas, bbq and beautiful views. We mainly relaxed around the pool but enjoyed going out to the Marina and beach on several occasions and of-course the local markets. Sara our villa manager was brilliant, if I needed to contact her about anything - she would deal with it very quickly and efficiently. We were really pleased with the service she gave. Nuray the cleaning lady was lovely and did a great job for us. We will definitely come back to Aegean 220 in the future. Once again Annie at Peninsula Villas Bodrum made the booking process smooth and easy and her customer service was fantastic - it has been a pleasure dealing with you Annie. A big thank you to all involved in making our holiday another memorable stay at Aegean 220 We look forward to booking through Peninsula Villas again.

Great Place to stay in Turkey, Priceless Views| October 2015
We stayed at Aegean 220 for a week in October 2015 with another couple. The villa is a haven of tranquility and the views are priceless from every level. We found ourselves hanging out at the villa most of the time enjoying its views, private pool and excellent amenities. The villa is well equipped with everything we wanted, including a French Press coffee maker, hair dryers and a safe. We were very comfortable and the area was very private. The villa provided free network WIFI and two smart TVs so we were able to use our flash drives for movies. We rented a car and the fishing village of Yalikavak was only five minutes away. It's a must to see and stroll the streets of this village. We took the owner's recommended daily boat trip with Captain Izzet and it was the best day ever. Sunning and swimming while lunch was being prepared for us and what a lunch. Words cannot describe this experience, you just have to do. Every Thursday is market day and it's packed with fresh fruits, vegetables, olive oil, spices and carpets. It was right out of an Aladdin story, see the picture. We only scratched the surface on this holiday. We plan on a two week stay in 2016. Our decision to choose this villa was swayed by its previous reviews which are spot on. Our hats our off to Annie at Peninsula Villas for a seamless booking, Hurdem who was only a phone call away if we needed assistance, Captain Izzet for a splendid boat trip and the owners for creating such a magical place to visit. Thank you for a wonderful holiday!

Stunning Views, Beautiful Villa | October 2015
When we arrived at the villa we were met with the wonderful view from the living area. The villa is beautiful and has everything you need - it`s like home from home plenty of cutlery, crockery etc.. The master bedroom was lovely and all the bedrooms had plenty of storage room and very comfortable beds! There were 5 of us staying at the villa - all adults, and there was plenty of space for us all to chill. Lots of seating areas outside, we made good use of the bbq in the evenings. It was still really hot so we had plenty use of the comfy sunbeds and pool. We used the infinity shared pool a couple of times which was lovely. My sister and I walked down to the nearest small shop/bakal on a couple of mornings, it took about 20 mins, but if you hire a car would only be 3/4 minutes away. We went to the local market in Yalikavak, and to the marina. The marina was beautiful. We also used a restaurant called The 3 Brothers, right by the beach, good food and hosts and Sky TV for the sports fanatics! All in all we had a wonderful holiday and would love to return to Aegean 220. Annie from Peninsula Villas made booking so easy and sorted out taxi transfers from the airport, which all went smoothly. Hurdem the local Villa manager in Turkey, was waiting for us at the villa and explained everything clearly, she had also done a shop for our arrival and the beers and wine were waiting for us in the fridge!! Hurdem was very prompt in answering texts or emails if there was a query. Thank you Annie for a smooth, easy booking and for all your help, I would definitely recommend Peninsula Villas!!
